Daughter of a griot and griotte herself, Fatoumata Dembele inherited the tradition of musical messengers by accompanying her mother at ceremonies and rituals. At the age of 25 she fully worked as a griotte at ceremonies, rituals and festivities In 1998 she participated to a music festival organised by Souleymane Sanou in Bobo-Dioulasso. After her performance, she was invited to join the group Farafina. She came to Europe for the first time in 1999. Her arrival contributes a welcome musical opening to the repertory of Farafina.
