SOULEYMANE SANOU AKA MANI

Doum’douba, bass kora, chekere, vocals

Born in 1956 in Bobo-Dioulasso, sector 6, Bolomakoté

Mani used to work as a tailor until he met in 1976, Mahama Konaté, performing in a cabaret.
touched by his music he followed him everywhere where he performed and became one of his greatest fan, even before Farafina was founded.
In 1978, he created the stage costumes for the first public performance of Farafina.
At the same time he created a dancing ensemble called “Dodje” and entered the competition at the “National Week of Culture”. He won the second prize in 1982 and the first prize in 1984.
Mahama Konaté, well aware of this success, asked Mani to lead “Farafina 2” which comprehended 25 dancers and singers.
In 1986 Mani became a member of Farafina as a dancer, then he started to play the doum’ douba and later on, the bass kora.
